XenServer backup and recovery are also simple with the help of VM templates and snapshots. XenServer provides a management console XenCenter, also a Windows-based client, that enables users to install, provision, and manage VMs running on various hosts in a resource pool and set up a remote storage repository. XenServer is designed to ease virtualization management, such as the VM template creation from snapshots and XenMotion’s ability to live migrate VMs between hosts. The file system supports dynamic expansion and distribution of both data and metadata areas. Most configurations use different storages for data and metadata. The two main classes of information appear on Xsan: the user data (such as files) and the file system metadata (such as folders, file names, file allocation information and so on). Xsan file system uses several logical storages to distribute information. XSan clients use TCP ports 49152–65535, with TCP/63146 frequently showing in log files. Some of the command line tools for Xsan begin with the letters cv, which stand for CentraVision – the original name for the file system. Xsan is based on the StorNext File System made by Quantum Corporation.
